Neopets is, as far as we know, safe from any exploits and dangerous scams!
Don't buy me if I'm too cheap!
August 1, 2008
Duplicated items are once again appearing on Neopets. At least one person has been frozen for buying a duplicated item. For now, don't buy a rare/expensive item if the price looks too good to be true.

Malicious emails are once again going around to Neopets Premium @neomail.com account owners. If you own an @neomail.com account, this is a heads-up for you.
A number of emails are being sent from an email address claiming to be from the "neomail.com Team". The emails may say that the neomail.com Team is updating their databases to "improve against" online viruses and that they will delete any unused accounts. The email asks for your username and password so that your account won't be deleted.
If you receive an email like this, DO NOT REPLY to it or click any links that don't go to neopets.com. Instead, delete the email immediately and consider sending a report to customer service.
Remember, Neopets will NEVER ask for your personal information! (This includes the people who work at neomail.com!)
Once again, do not give out your personal information or visit any links that do not go to neopets.com.
Ewww...nasty! Stay away!

Recently, certain advertisements on Neopets are prompting users to scan their computer for viruses. Accepting the "virus scan" will install harmful software on your computer. If you stumble upon this advertisement, close it immediately. If you happen to install the software by accident, we recommend using Ad-Aware or Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove them.

The Basics
Early in the morning, people that deposited or withdrew from their bank account found that their Neopoints had duplicated themselves. A few of these people spent this lavishly, offering ridiculously high amounts on items in the auctions or the Trading Post. The Bank, Auctions, and Trading Post were all closed as a result of this serious exploit.
What to Avoid
Avoid the Wheels, scratchcards, the Money Tree, the main Neopian shops, the Stock Market, and Coltzan's Shrine.
What to Do
If you receive duplicated Neopoints or valuable items from someone, report it to TNT immediately and discard the item. "Why should I get rid of the item? It's so expensive!" Because TNT may freeze people that abused the exploit. You are at risk of being frozen even if you did not duplicate NP.
Prevention
To prevent yourself from receiving any duplicated NP or items bought as a result of duplication, we recommend that you:
- Go to your Preferences and enable the "Only Neofriends Can Give You Items" option.
- Set the prices of your shop items to 0.

Malicious emails are going around to Neopets Premium @neomail.com account owners. If you own an @neomail.com account, this is a heads-up for you.
A number of emails are being sent from people claiming to be a member of The Neopets Team, as well as emails that contain links to potentially unsafe websites. If you receive one, do not reply to it or click any non-Neopets links. Instead, report the email and delete it immediately.
If your email asks for your username, password, and/or PIN or else it will "be frozen," do NOT give out your information! The person who sent the email may claim to be a member of The Neopets Team, but they're not! Neopets will NEVER ask for your personal information!
If your email contains a link to somewhere other than Neopets, DO NOT CLICK IT. These websites can be dangerous, as some of them may contain cookie grabbers that will give the scammer your password and possibly your PIN. Once again, do not click any links that do not have neopets.com in it.

The newest scam that has hit Neopets is the trophy award scam. Basically this involves those "awards" that you see on userlookups, pet lookups, petpages, etc.
Once you've accepted the award and displayed it on your userlookup, petpage, etc., the scammer tries to get you frozen by switching the award image to an inappropriate image. After switching the image, they will report you and you may be frozen.
Be very wary! If you want to accept awards, you can simply upload them to your own server to avoid having it being switched. Or you can just not participate in these contests anyway!
If you want to upload your award images to your own server, you can try some of the following free image hosts:
